Best known for his role as Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager, Tim Russ brings a wealth of talent and experience to the set of The Reel Deal. Acclaimed for his dynamic skillset, Russ is a prolific actor, director, and screenwriter.
Since beginning his acting career in 1985, he has appeared in more than 100 titles, ranging from science fiction to treasured sitcoms. Most recently, Russ is known for recurring roles as Frank, a snarky doorman on Christina Applegate’s comedy, Samantha Who?; and Principal Franklin on acclaimed Nickelodeon show, iCarly.
His largest fan base, however, is derived from his extensive history with the Star Trek franchise. In addition to his role as Lieutenant Commander Tuvok, Russ appeared on the television shows Next Generation and Deep Space Nine; and in the film, Star Trek: Generations. He has also acted and directed in fan-financed projects, bringing the role of Tuvok back to life in the television series, Star Trek: Of Gods and Men and a film currently in post-production, Star Trek: Renegades.
Russ was given his first directing opportunity in 1998 for Star Trek: Voyagers. To date, he has directed for more than twenty-two titles, including extensive direction for the comedy series, Bloomers, about friendship and growing up in Los Angeles.
Russ began writing in 1995, when he co-authored two issues of the comic book, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with Mark Paniccia. Since then, he’s written nine titles, including several short films and, in 2011, a comedy entitled Play by Play.
Due to his vast experience both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, Russ is perfectly poised to lead his team on The Reel Deal.
01Since Voyager‘s end in 2001, Russ has focused on directing as well as his singing career. In 2001, he released his second album through independent distribution, Kushangaza, featuring the song “Kushangaza“. This song could also be seen in the hidden music video on disc 7 of the Star Trek: Voyager season 2 DVD.
02He has worked with four and a half Trek captains, namely William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Genevieve Bujold and that the crew produced a blooper tape of the first season which was not published. (Trekworld, June 1999)
03He and his younger siblings Michael and Angela grew up on several military bases, including Niagara Falls, Elmendorf (Alaska) AFB, Omaha, Taiwan, Philippines and Turkey. During these moves around the world, he graduated from Izmir High School in Turkey, and received his diploma from Rome Free Academy in Rome, New York.
